The river ROAD area of prospect park
River Road is a strip of Prospect Park neighborhood that lies between the Mississippi River Gorge and Interstate 94, bordered by SE Franklin Avenue to the north and St. Paul to the south. The area's residences are primarily single-family dwellings along East River Parkway and the adjacent East River Terrace.
As its name implies, River Road adjoins the neighborhood's most treasured natural landmarks: the Mississippi River and River Gorge Park, part of the Mississippi National River & Recreation Area. The park's roughly one mile of river flats and dramatic bluffs are favored by runners, dog walkers and nature lovers year-round.
The identity of River Road was critically affected by the construction of I-94 in the 1950s, which isolated the area from the rest of the neighborhood.
