    Prospect Park – Minneapolis, Minnesota

ppa (Prospect Park Association) board of directors

PPA’s board consists of not fewer than 11 and not more than 16 directors elected for 2-year positions. Terms are staggered to ensure at least half of the seats change in any given year. Two seats are designated, one for a university student and one for a business owner or lessee, or designated representative of a nonprofit, educational organization or governmental organization in the neighborhood. Any adult resident, property owner, business owner or lessee, or designated representative of a nonprofit, educational organization or governmental organization in Prospect Park is eligible to run for an elected position.

All PPA meetings are open to the public.

PPA BOARD ELECTIONS

PPA holds board member elections in May of each year to coincide with City-wide neighborhood organization board elections, initiated by Neighborhood Community Relations (NCR) in 2022. Participating in the city-wide election date brings greater attention to our neighborhood board election, giving more people the opportunity to participate as candidates and voters. The City of Minneapolis will help promote neighborhood organization elections held on the city-wide date. From 2017 through 2021, PPA board elections took place in September.

BYLAWS

PPA Bylaws approved, August 22nd 2022. PPA’s bylaws were reviewed by Birken Law, a firm specializing in nonprofit law, and meet requirements established by Neighborhood Community Relations (NCR) for neighborhood organizations.

Lists of PPA / PPERRIA MEMBERS of the Board of directors

Note: Before being incorporated as a non-profit in 1980, PPERRIA had a 40-member "Council" to help ensure broad participation across the entire neighborhood. These "council members" were signified as "board members" after the incorporation. 40 members constituted the PPA Board of Directors until September, 2016 at which time the change was made to reduce the number to 16 over a two-year transition period: in the 2016-17 year: 27 members; 2017-present: 16 members. Beginning in 2014 a two-year debate to change the by-laws to reduce the number to 16 was repeatedly rejected on the grounds that we were not a non-profit but rather a neighborhood organization and that broad representation was a benefit; nevertheless, the counter argument finally succeeded through repeated by-laws change meetings that asserted that meeting quorums would be easier to assemble, and no other non-profit boards maintained such a large number of members.
